This garden was quite challenging because the plot was very shallow but steeply sloping on a tangent to the house. We dealt with it by terracing it on three distinct levels using new oak sleepers as retaining walls. The design also encompassed a side area to the house making it part of the garden and so enlarging the sense of space and giving the garden flow. The oak sleepers were installed at a height at which they could be used to sit on. A small water feature with water spilling from on level to the next via a steel rill was included.
